At the end of October 2023, OffGridBox installed its FLEX solar power modules at 4 health clinics in Kagera region in Tanzania. Mabira, Kamuli, Rutunguru and Murongo health centres now have access to 24/7 solar energy.
This means that essential medical equipment can now be powered, increasing service delivery for the communities that are dependent on these clinics for their health care. It also means that clinics can operate at night, because the FLEX is providing energy for lighting too. As many deliveries take place at night, this is a substantial improvement for maternal healthcare.
Local Tanzanian technicians took care of installation, with the OffGridBox team providing remote assistance. Staff at the clinics involved were trained so they can take care of daily operations and maintenance.
The project was funded by the Houston based All People Be Happy Foundation. It is the second project that OffGridBox is implementing with support from APBH; a previous one included the OffGridBox M!NI and was also done in Tanzania.
Did you know that only 28% of health facilities in Sub-Saharan Africa have access to reliable and affordable energy? Huge steps still need to be taken to make sure that hundreds of millions of people in rural and remote areas can be served by clinics that have a reliable and continuous power supply. The OffGridBox FLEX, a modular 1.6 kW solar system with 2.5-5 kWh battery storage can play a vital role in this effort.
